Former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi, son of the former Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Prof. Ghulam Azam, commented that the national anthem was against the existence of independent Bangladesh and demanded to change it and make a new national anthem. Secretary General of the party and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that this statement is his ‘personal’ statement and he is not a member of the Jamaat. In his speech, he also urged not to be confused about Jamaat.

Azmi is not a member of Jamaat, the statement is ‘purely personal’

In a statement on Sunday (September 8), this top leader of Jamaat-e-Islami said that recently, our attention has been drawn to the news published in some national dailies and online news portals about the speech of former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi. Our statement in this regard is that former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi is not a person associated with Jamaat-e-Islami. He has no organizational affiliation with Jamaat-e-Islami. He does not represent Jamaat-e-Islami. The speech he has given is very personal. So, there is no scope to associate his statement with Jamaat-e-Islami. There is no scope for spreading confusion about Jamaat-e-Islami based on his statement. I draw the attention of all concerned in this matter.

Earlier, former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Azmi, son of Jamaat’s former Amir Ghulam Azam, said, “I left this national anthem to this government” in a press conference held at the auditorium of the National Press Club last Tuesday (September 3). The national anthem we have now is against the existence of our independent Bangladesh. It represents the era of cancellation of the partition of Bengal to unite the two Bengals. How can the music which is made to unite the two Bengals be the national anthem of independent Bangladesh? This music was imposed on us by India in 1971. There are many songs to sing the national anthem. This government should form a new commission and create a new national anthem.

During the Awami League government period, he said these things at one point while describing his experience of life as a prisoner of the mirror for eight years. The reasons why he was kept missing for eight long years, told the press conference. The former army officer also said that he was suffering from various physical complications including teeth and eyes while he was missing.
