The president of the Foundation for Analysis and Social Studies (FAES) and former president of the Government, José María Aznar, warned this Friday that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can become “a weapon capable of destroying the world”, Therefore, it has requested a control mechanism for this system, which has the leadership of the European Union.
During the closing ceremony of the FAES 2023 Campus, Aznar shared this reflection with the vice president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, to whom he has requested this leadership to carry out this control of Artificial Intelligence.
Specifically, the former President of the Government has lamented that AI is “in the hands of competition between companies”, something that in his opinion makes it “absolutely out of control”, which is why he has called for the creation of a control mechanism development of Artificial Intelligence.
“Is the human being capable of creating a weapon capable of destroying the world in which he lives? The answer is yes, we have already done it. Is the human being capable of creating machines with the capacity for rationing, feeling, that replace him? The answer is what he is doing,” he proclaimed.
Likewise, Aznar took advantage of his intervention at this closing of the FAES campuses to ask for reflection on why there are industries in areas in the north of Spain, more specifically speaking of Catalonia, that want to leave. “Why have they stopped being attractive?” asked the former head of the Executive.
In turn, he has reproached the Government of Pedro Sánchez for refusing to explore all the natural resources in the country, while, as he has said ironically, in Spain “we are the champions in the fight against climate change.”
