Speaking to CNN Greece, Vassilis Kikilias expresses his belief that the year we are going through will be impressive for tourism in our country. In fact, the Minister of Tourism and candidate for parliament with the New Democracy in Athens A raises the revenue bar even higher, predicting that it will reach 19 billion euros in 2023.
However, as Mr. Kikilias mentions, the fact that this increase in revenue will come from more quality travelers and tourists is of particular importance, as the objective of the ministry is to ensure a sustainable tourism model for the country, avoiding overtourism phenomena. “We have to offer quality tourism,” says Mr. Kikilias, making special mention of the investments of hundreds of millions of euros – public as well as private – that have been made in recent years or have been announced and planned.
In fact, as he mentions, these investments are reviving neighborhoods of Athens, while tourism revenues have a significant impact on the country’s GDP and on the standard of living of hundreds of thousands of families. Finally, referring to his own path as Minister of Tourism and his political goals for the May 21 elections, he characteristically emphasizes that “we must be judged by our works and not by our words”.
