Pakistan‘s five-match T20I series against New Zealand starts tomorrow at home. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering resting captain Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Afridi for this series.
In the pre-match press conference, Pakistan head coach Azhar Mahmood hinted at resting Babar and Shaheen.
Azhar said, ‘Babur will be rested if possible. But that will depend on the situation. All circumstances will be considered in making this decision.’
Before the start of this series, there were rumors that Shaheen Afridi was not fully fit. Because of that, he will not be able to play in the first two matches. However, Azhar dismissed this rumour, ‘Shaheen Afridi is fully fit. I have heard the news that he will not be able to play the first two matches of the series against New Zealand. It is media news, nothing like that was said from our side.’
The coach feels that the strength of the Pakistan team has increased with the return of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, as well as the balance and options, ‘Our team is quite balanced. We have tried to select teams that cover all aspects of a match properly. We have benefited from the return of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim. I can use them anytime.’
