The baccalaureate exams started last Monday. As every year, attempts at fraud and cheating by students remain common. This year, however, it was a supervisor who was caught in the act.

The supervisor of an examination center in Ampitatafika treated the subject of English in place of a candidate on Monday afternoon. According to concordant sources, the supervisor was dismissed from the examination center before being arrested and then released pending her summons before the competent authorities.

In several exam centers across the country, attempts at fraud have been reported by candidates who provide their testimonies anonymously. In the capital, mobile phones prohibited in the examination room are used during the tests. Confiscated by supervisors, some students say they have paid money to supervisors to get their phones back.

The phenomenon would also have occurred in the examination centers in the north of Madagascar, in Antsiranana, as in Antalaha, Sambava and Andapa or even in the region of Sofia. This would have happened especially in the context of the Philosophy and English tests. Worse, the candidates would not hesitate to ask the supervisors to cover them.

Faced with this problem, the director of national examinations, Dr. Harinaivo Hajasoa Ralaivao, believes that the intensification of preventive measures should put an end to fraud. Thus, instructions were given to the heads of centers to carry out a full search at the entrance to all examination centers.
