Back pain is a problem that, sooner or later, affects everyone in the course of life. The causes can be many and it is not always easy to identify them. Usually the disorder is brought to the attention of the general practitioner, physiatrist, orthopedist, sometimes neurosurgeon. It is less easy to think that some back pain falls within the remit of rheumatic disease experts. This is the case, for example, of ankylosing spondylitis or psoriatic arthritis. A correct and timely diagnosis of these forms is important because it allows targeted therapies. It was discussed in the meeting at the Corriere della Sera with professors Roberto Gerli, president of the Italian Society of Rheumatology and rheumatology director of the Perugia Hospital; Francesco Ciccia, director of the Department of Precision Medicine, Rheumatology, University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” of Naples; Alberto Cauli, rheumatology director of the Monserrato Polyclinic, University of Cagliari. The meeting was moderated by Luigi Ripamonti, head of “Corriere Salute”
