After the World Cup break, the teams around the world are getting back to business, as today (Wednesday) the round of 16 of the League Cup continues with Manchester United beating Burnley 0:2 from first place in the Championship at Old Trafford and qualifying for the quarterfinals.
Eric ten Haah started with a relatively strong lineup and as expected the Red Devils dominated the game from the start. In the 27th minute, Christian Eriksen found the net from close range after a great pass by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. United slowed down a bit as Burnley mostly closed in and tried to go for passing attacks. In the 57th minute, Scott McTominay found Marcus Rashford with a beautiful pass, the striker took excellent control, kicked sharply to the left corner and sealed the result of the game.
In another match that took place as part of the League Cup, Nottingham Forest defeated Blackburn 1:4. Braun Johnson scored on a penalty in the 11th minute, Scott Wharton equalized (44′), but Jesse Lingard (54′), Taiwo Avnihi (79′) and Brennan Johnson (93′) gave the victory to Nottingham. Also, a big surprise was recorded when Charlton from the third division beat Brighton 3:4 on penalties after 0:0 in regular time.
