Back to work faster with memory training after the first psychosis

by time news

The PhD research shows that cognitive remediation (or training) can enhance the effect of IPS in the longer term. IPS stands for ‘Individual Placement and Support’, which is a form of practical guidance for finding and keeping paid work for people with a mental illness.

The cognitive training in this study consisted of a computer program for training memory, attention and planning, in which the participant was supervised by a cognitive therapist. The group that received cognitive training in addition to IPS had clearly worked more often and more hours in a paid job after 1.5 years than the group that received a control intervention in addition to IPS.
