The tacky “satire” by Markos Seferlis, which mocks this year’s Eurovision winner and non-binary person, Nemo, has sparked intense reactions, while the actor himself has taken issue with all those who criticize him. Nemo’s father responded for the first time to what has happened while speaking to ANT1.
Markus Mettler, when asked about Nemo’s psychology and daily life following their participation in Eurovision, stated that they are:
“Focused on what they love, having fun creating good music!”
He was then asked about Markos Seferlis’s satire on Nemo and replied:
“As parents, we do not publicly comment on issues concerning Nemo because we want (in the family) to have a space where everyone can be themselves.
Because I think it is very important for Nemo to have a space where they can be themselves and to have a family that loves them.”
When asked if he knew of any other messages directed at Nemo from people who mock non-binary individuals, he emphasized:
“Of course, that happens! It often comes from people who are irritated or do not understand and have a purely binary way of perceiving life. That’s life!
It is a period of transition, and I am sure you will meet people who enjoy making such comments.
I don’t think our goal is to change anyone.
It is a journey, and everything will find its way. Many things that are absolutely accepted today were not so 20, 50, or 100 years ago!
However, it is neither our role nor Nemo’s role to educate people who cannot be educated.”
