by Mark Thompson

Bacolod City is boosting financial support for its local law enforcement and emergency responders. Starting this month, personnel in the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) will receive a monthly allowance of ₱2,000, a significant increase from the previous amount.

Allowance Increase Aims to Boost Morale

The increased allowance is intended to recognize the dedication and hard work of these frontline workers.

  • The allowance for BCPO, BFP, and BJMP personnel in Bacolod City has been raised to ₱2,000 per month.
  • The increase, approved on February 26, 2024, is effective immediately.
  • City officials hope the additional financial support will improve morale and performance.

What prompted this increase in allowance for Bacolod’s public safety personnel? The move, approved by the Bacolod City Council on February 26, 2024, is a direct response to requests from the city’s public safety sector and a recognition of the increasing financial pressures faced by personnel.

According to a statement released by the city government, the increased allowance will benefit a total of 739 personnel across the three agencies. This includes 498 from the BCPO, 131 from the BFP, and 110 from the BJMP. The funding for the additional allowance will be sourced from the city’s budget.

The Bacolod City Council unanimously approved the measure, demonstrating broad support for the initiative.

Councilor Em Ang, chair of the City Council’s committee on finance, emphasized the importance of supporting those who protect and serve the community. “Our police, firefighters, and jail personnel are always there for us, especially during times of crisis. This is a small way of showing our gratitude and recognizing their sacrifices,” Ang stated.

The city government anticipates that the increased allowance will not only improve the financial well-being of personnel but also boost their morale and motivation, ultimately leading to enhanced public safety services for the residents of Bacolod City. The implementation of the new allowance schedule began on February 29, 2024.

Impact on Local Personnel

The increase is expected to provide substantial relief to personnel, particularly given the rising cost of living. The additional ₱2,000 per month can help cover essential expenses such as transportation, food, and education for their families.

Officials also believe that the allowance increase will help attract and retain qualified personnel in the public safety sector, ensuring that Bacolod City has a well-trained and dedicated workforce to address the evolving security challenges.

The city government is committed to continuously assessing the needs of its public safety personnel and exploring additional ways to support them in their vital roles.
