Gold traders say the price of a pound of gold in Sri Lanka has risen to 180,000.
Accordingly, a 24 karat gold pound will be sold for 180,000 rupees on Chettiar Street, Colombo and a 22 karat gold pound will be sold for 160,000 rupees.
According to gold jewelers, the sharp fall in the value of the rupee against the dollar has contributed to the rise in gold prices.
Meanwhile, the price of gold in the world market is rising due to the Russia-Ukraine war crisis.
Accordingly the price of an ounce of gold is currently US $ 1,958.
Despite a slight decline in the price of gold over the weekend, the price of gold has risen by about 3 percent, or $ 56, over the past 30 days.
Meanwhile, gold prices have risen 13 percent to $ 230 over the past year.
