Baden-Württemberg: Municipalities should invest more in green spaces | Regional

Leinfelden-Echterdingen – According to the association for gardening, landscaping and sports field construction, municipalities should invest more in green and open spaces in order to cushion the effects of climate change.

“People want green open spaces,” said association leader Martin Joos in Leinfelden-Echterdingen (Esslingen district). Because of the increase in hot days and heavy rain, there is no way around doing more here.

This includes the greening of facades and roofs as well as the conversion of brownfield sites into green spaces.

The association also spoke out in favor of providing even more financial support for greenery on the house wall or on the roof through appropriate funding programs. State buildings should also be greened.

The turnover of the industry in the southwest increased by five percent to 1.93 billion euros last year, as the association also announced. 817 specialist companies are organized in it. Most of the proceeds came from transactions with private clients – namely 63 percent.

The public sector accounted for 18 percent of sales.
