As of: January 29, 2024 11:53 a.m

On Sunday all trains at Stuttgart Central Station were at a standstill. This was not due to the GDL strike, but rather due to a reference to “suspicious people”.

After Stuttgart Central Station was closed for around an hour on Sunday, the men who were temporarily arrested are at large again. The federal police announced this on Monday. The main station was closed shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Information from the public: Men with weapons in the main train station

According to the Federal Police, witnesses reported three men with weapons at Stuttgart Central Station on Sunday. The police then closed the main station for security reasons. Three suspicious men aged 17, 19 and 22 were temporarily arrested. Since no weapons were found on them, they were released.

Train traffic at Stuttgart main station was at a standstill for a good hour. A SWR reporter on site reported dozens of police vehicles standing in front of the station building.

Closure lifted around 12:20 p.m.: trains are running again

According to a spokesman for the Federal Police, there was never any danger to the population. The area around the main station should still be avoided – also because there were no trains running at the time.

Train traffic was reopened at around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday. Due to the GDL strike, there wasn’t as much going on as usual. Some trains were rerouted.

Broadcast on Sun, January 28th, 2024 12:00 p.m., SWR4 on Sunday, SWR4
