A stellar performance in the spring season opener has earned three Wisconsin Badgers – Lucie Delmas, Ryane Neal, and a standout athlete known as Wanezek – prestigious Big Ten Weekly Awards, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. The accolades highlight the team’s strong start and position them as contenders in the upcoming season.
Wisconsin’s swim and dive team demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork in their recent competitions, securing victories against UCLA, UC San Diego, and Tulane. The Badgers’ success is a testament to their dedication and rigorous training regimen.
Wanezek Shines in Multiple Events
Wanezek, a sophomore, was a driving force behind Wisconsin’s success, claiming two individual event wins and contributing to two first-place relay teams. She achieved a personal best in the 200 IM, finishing with a time of 1:56.74. Her impressive lead-off split of 51.18 in the 400 medley relay was instrumental in securing another victory for the Badgers. This recognition marks the third Big Ten award of her career, solidifying her position as a key athlete for the team.
Delmas Earns Freshman Accolades
Lucie Delmas quickly made her mark as a freshman, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. She secured an individual event win in the 200 fly, posting a winning time of 1:59.18. Delmas also achieved a third-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 54.36, and contributed a 53.75 split in the butterfly leg of the 400 medley relay, helping the team to a fourth-place finish.
Neal Excels in Diving Competition
Ryane Neal captured her first Big Ten Diver of the Week award of the season after a dominant performance at the FIU Sprint Invite. Neal won the 3-meter event with a score of 267.30 points and finished tenth on the 1-meter with 233.80 points, showcasing her versatility and skill in diving.
Looking ahead, the Wisconsin Badgers will travel to Evanston on January 17 to compete in a dual meet against Northwestern. This upcoming competition presents another opportunity for the team to demonstrate their talent and continue their winning streak.
