They were a doubles pair with a 26-year age difference, but their teamwork was fantastic. Although they suffered a bitter defeat against the ‘defending champion’, they won a valuable silver medal.

The pair of Jeong Jae-gun (47, WH1, Ulsan Jung-gu Office) and Yoo Su-young (21, WH2, Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled) lost to the pair of Mai Jianfeng and Qu Zimo with a set score of 0-2 (10-21 12-21) in the final of the men’s doubles (sport grade WH1·2) badminton at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games held at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena in Paris, France on the 1st (local time).

The Mai Jianfeng-Qu Zimo pair is the gold medal winning duo at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games held in 2021.

The Maizenfung-Chuizimo pair persistently sent the shuttlecock towards Jeong Jae-gun. They took advantage of Yoo Su-young’s higher disability level and the fact that he had lost physical strength and concentration due to playing singles matches during the day.

Jeong Jae-gun repeatedly withstood the opponent’s attacks, but there were often times when the shuttlecock ended up in the net after a long rally.

The pair of Jeong Jae-gun and Yoo Su-young worked together in doubles two years ago, but broke up due to poor results.

However, ahead of this Paralympic Games, we started to work together again, and as we started to see results in international competitions, we came all the way to Paris.

This was the first Paralympic Games for both.

Although they don’t have much experience, they showed off fantastic teamwork as they made it to the finals.

Their Paris Paralympic Games are not over yet.

Yoo Su-young will play against Kim Jeong-jun (46, Daegu Urban Development Corporation) in the singles bronze medal match on the 2nd. Jeong Jae-gun will also compete for the bronze medal against Thomas Wandschneider of Germany.
