Won 2-0 in the round of 16 against Nguyen Thuy Linh
Korean badminton star Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) reached the quarterfinals of the women’s singles at the 2025 Malaysia Open Badminton Championships.
‘World No. 1’ Se-young Ahn won 2-0 (21-15 21-15) in the round of 16 of the tournament against ‘34th-ranked’ Nguyen Thuy Linh (Vietnam) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 9th (Korean time).
Ahn Se-young succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals with a complete win in 38 minutes.
The opponent in the quarterfinals is the winner of the match between ‘15th ranked’ Zhang Beiwen (USA) and ‘27th ranked’ Mia Blickfeld (Denmark).
Ahn Se-young finished 2024 by winning a bronze medal at the World Tour Finals, a badminton competition held in Hangzhou, China last month.
Last year, Ahn Se-young participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics and won a gold medal, but left a ‘resolute statement’ towards the badminton national team and the Korea Badminton Association.
Ahn Se-young will attempt to win her second consecutive title at the Malaysia Open, the first international tournament of the new year, following last year.
