It was confirmed on the 3rd that the police officer in charge of the attack on People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin posted the details of the investigation on his personal blog and was accused of leaking official secrets by Representative Bae.

Rep. Bae expressed his position that he had asked the police to take appropriate action against the police officers, but failed to do so, so he had no choice but to file a complaint.

On the 28th of last month, People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin accused Superintendent A, who was in charge of investigating the attack on her, on charges of leaking official secrets.

Superintendent A was the head of the criminal division at Gangnam Police Station in Seoul when Rep. Bae was attacked in Gangnam-gu, Seoul last January, and served as deputy head of the investigation team and directed the overall investigation.

It is known that, immediately after taking charge of the case, Superintendent A published articles containing the details of the investigation, including the size of the investigation team, witness statements, and data analysis, four times over a month on a blog comprised of amateur writers. Most of the posts in question have now been deleted.

Representative Bae explained to Newsis on the 3rd, “The investigator was posting the conclusion of the investigation into the inconclusive case on his personal blog through an unofficial route.”

He continued, “Congressman Bae was very upset because it was a post that appeared to be intended to increase the number of views and visitors by mentioning the congressman’s real name and using a provocative title.”

Rep. Bae said, “It is a leak of official secrets and is also a secondary offense. “We believe that this is an act with many problems, as prosecutors and courts are drawing very definitive conclusions about cases that have not reached a conclusion,” he said. “The police did not take appropriate action against him, so we had no choice but to file a complaint.”

At the same time, when asked whether the superintendent concerned had sent a separate apology, he said, “I have not received any separate communication yet.”

Rep. Bae also said, “It has only been a few days since the complaint was submitted, so no schedule has been set for the investigation of the accuser.” He then corrected the statement by saying, “Chief Inspector A said in a media interview, ‘We decided that now was not the right time, so we deleted it,’ but the exact facts are that we first raised an objection to the police.”

An official from Gangnam Police Station in Seoul told Newsis, “Rep. Bae filed a complaint on the 28th of last month on charges of leaking official secrets in relation to Superintendent A.” He added, “We are reviewing the contents of the complaint and will soon investigate the accuser.”
