Baek Jong-won, a restaurateur, met with former JTBC president Son Seok-hee and confronted the conflict between the headquarters of The Born Korea, of which he is the CEO, and some of its franchise owners.

On the MBC TV show ‘Son Seok-hee’s Questions’ that aired for the first time on the 13th, CEO Baek confessed, “I was very embarrassed,” especially regarding the recent controversy over false and exaggerated sales figures for Yeondon Bolkatz.

The brand, which started with 4 stores and grew to 68, has now shrunk to 49. Former President Son cited management issues and sustainability as the main topics. Since then, former President Son and CEO Baek have continued their battle of wits.

CEO Baek said about the claim that he promised the franchise owners of Yeondon Volkatz an expected sales amount of ’30 million won’, “It is not an attempt to evade responsibility, but it is wrong to demand compensation as if it was a promise made by the entire company by nitpicking what a salesperson said to boost sales.”

Quoting the phrase, “It’s different and it’s different,” he emphasized, “(I suggested to the franchise owner) that we release the recording from beginning to end. We’re providing it in its entirety without cutting it. The reason why I said that is explained in the beginning.” He said, “Since it’s a matter that has been reported to the Fair Trade Commission, (the recording) will likely be released later.”

Representative Baek also explained that the franchise business is diamond-shaped and cannot accommodate the majority of store owners.

He claimed that as the number of store management increases, the cost that franchisees have to bear also increases. Baek, who is in conflict with 8 out of 49 Yeondon Bolkat stores due to a sharp drop in sales, also claimed that “we need to look at the difference between the average number of business days of stores and the average number of business days of existing identical brands.”

CEO Baek, who met with the owners of Yeondon Bolkatsu stores to develop a new menu, said, “The other store owners are excited. They say that sales have increased. It’s really frustrating for us…” He added, “I’m sorry for showing a bad image. I will try to increase sales through this opportunity.”
