The North Rhine-Westphalia consumer advice center has turned on the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bafin) and submitted a supervisory complaint against Postbank, which belongs to the Deutsche Bank Group. The background is that Postbank is very slow in releasing attached accounts.

On July 21, the FAZ reported on the case of a Hessian whose account was unjustly seized and the Postbank, which delayed the release for months. Apparently it wasn’t an isolated case. Desperate calls and emails on this matter are currently reaching the NRW consumer advice center every day, she says.

Countermeasures by Postbank or the parent company Deutsche Bank that are appropriate to the situation of those affected are not apparent, says the consumer advice center, which has asked Bafin for “urgent intervention”. “It is unacceptable that Postbank apparently does not ensure the proper organization of the necessary processes to comply with statutory garnishment protection regulations,” said Wolfgang Schuldzinski, board member of the North Rhine-Westphalia consumer advice centre.
