/ Iraq and Turkey agreed on Sunday on the need to accelerate work on the strategic “Development Road” project, as it is a global project that serves the two countries, the countries of the region, and the world.

This came during a visit by a Turkish delegation to Basra Governorate, southern Iraq, which witnessed the discussion of ways to complete the technical requirements of the “Development Road” project, and to review the projects of the Grand Faw Port, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Transport, and received by Agency.

The Turkish delegation included a number of general managers in the Turkish Ministry of Communications and Infrastructure, as well as representatives of the Italian consulting company concerned with the project.

According to the statement, the Director General of Iraqi Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, and the Director General of Railways, Younis Al-Kaabi, discussed with the Turkish delegation the technical development road issues, and agreed to hold a regular monthly meeting to accelerate the development road procedures and its implementation mechanism.

The Turkish delegation conducted an exploratory tour of the submerged tunnel project and the expressway linking Faw Port and the development road. It praised the implementation work in the Faw Port projects, and considered it a global project that serves Iraq, the countries of the region and the world.

It is noteworthy that the visit of the Turkish delegation was agreed upon during the last visit of the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis, to Ankara, during which a number of technical matters related to the development road project were agreed upon.
