Baghdad Operations Commander, Lieutenant General Walid Al-Tamimi, confirmed that the incident that took place in the Al-Salamat area, north of Baghdad, was criminal.

Al-Tamimi told the (INA), “The incident that took place in the Salamiyat area in Al-Shaala was the result of the explosion of a bomb placed inside a (gift) box that was sent with the delivery service via a tuk-tuk to a citizen who was waiting to receive it near a military checkpoint, indicating that “the bomb placed inside the gift box exploded while it was being received by the citizen, which resulted in the death of the tuk-tuk owner, the martyrdom of a soldier, and the injury of another within the military checkpoint, along with the injury of the targeted citizen.”

He added that “the incident was criminal due to personal problems and not terrorist,” stressing that “a task force was immediately formed by the security services to uncover the threads of the crime and pursue its perpetrators.”
