Baghpat: There is a colony in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh where after marriage the groom has to live as son-in-law in the house. In this colony, there are not one, not two but more than 300 families from where the bride’s palanquin was raised but the groom had to stay at home. Today 500 families live in this colony. The municipality changed its name but people know the colony as Jamaipura. This colony of Baghpat district falls on Mubarakpur-Fakharpur road of Khekra Municipality. It is said that four families came here earlier. They settled their respective sons-in-law here. After this, the girl whose palanquin was raised from Khekra town, bid farewell to her father, but the girl’s husband got employment and a plot here, his house was built and he was kept here. Not just one or two but all 300 families are like this here. People started calling this new colony by the name of Jamai Pura. Because most of the people came and settled here from outside.

Khekra town is considered important from employment point of view. A lot of textile work is done here from Gandasa Factory. After marriage, the boys were provided employment here and then they settled in their homes here.

When his daughter got married, his son-in-law also started living here. In 37 years this colony became home to 300 families.
