Conakry, May 2, 2024 – The Prime Minister, Head of Government, received for the second time the heads of media and press associations at the Prime Minister’s Office.

A month ago, media people requested the involvement of the Head of Government in overcoming the crisis that some have been going through for 6 months. Today, Mr. Amadou Oury BAH deemed it necessary to summon them in order to inform them of the progress of his approach to the Head of State, the President of the HAC and the exchanges with Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

Following the interview, the spokesperson for media men, Aboubacar CAMARA, declared: “This interview with the Prime Minister is full of meaning, we are leaving with hope. Two days after his installation, we met him. He had made commitments to help the press get out of this crisis, as he always has. We were very moved to hear the Prime Minister officially tell us that he has been entrusted, by His Excellency the President of the Republic, with this file which has now been going on for six months. This is why we are taking this opportunity to officially announce that from tomorrow, consultations will open to the entire press so that we can meet to define the contours of the self-regulatory body of the press which started some time ago…”

Furthermore, he stressed that it is the journalists who must meet to discuss to arrive at a more or less consensual document concerning the court of peers. “This will be work initiated by us, but also carried out by the professionals that we are. This consensual work will then be submitted to the Prime Minister so that we can definitively emerge from this crisis.”

The Prime Minister, surrounded by members of his cabinet, asked media men to send him the terms of reference of the future self-regulatory body, which, according to him, is a mechanism aimed at bringing journalists towards greater professionalism by applying fundamental practices in their work. “…The editorial lines must be framed. Journalists must act professionally, this is what will give prestige and strength to the 4th power,” he said.
