Deutsche Bahn’s reaction to a critical post by AfD member of the Bundestag Beatrix von Storch caused a net hit with mixed reactions on the online platform X, formerly Twitter.

The 52-year-old politician posted a photo on X on Sunday evening in which she was standing in front of a Deutsche Bahn ICE train wearing sunglasses and a cap with the inscription “Make Germany Safe Again”. The train has a longitudinal stripe in rainbow colors.

The politician wrote: “Departure 25 minutes late. After 3 minutes of driving, announcement: We have to make another turn after the next stop – an additional 15 minutes. Like the whole of Germany: Don’t get any more attention, but show a lot of attitude in your pink tutu.” Von Storch put a rainbow emoji in front of the word attitude.

The Deutsche Bahn AG press account responded to the complaint at X by editing the photo. The press team behind von Storch used a desert landscape as the background and replied: “We are pleased that you still achieved your goal. Unfortunately the return trip is cancelled.”

This reaction was well received by thousands of users of the platform. On Monday morning, more than 18,000 people had already pressed the “Like” button on the railway’s response, praised the company in replies and even appeared to be conciliatory. “So I have forgotten all the delays, train cancellations, etc. in the last few months,” it said.

But there was also a lot of criticism. It was demanded that the railway should concentrate on its core business, reliable passenger transport. One reaction was: “As if DB would make it to the desert.”
