A social activist who is currently in prison Bakhtiyar Hajiyev He answered RFE/RL’s questions.
He answered the question about his arrest as follows:
– There were different versions about the reason for your arrest. One of the versions is that this arrest coincided with the announcement of the US sanctions list. For the first time, the head of the department of the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from Azerbaijan was included in that list. Did you connect your arrest only with this issue, or not?
– I have criticized the activities of the police authorities, and as a result, the imposition of sanctions by the United States of America (USA) on the head of the department of the Main Organized Crime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs led to my arrest.
Hajiyev also commented on the spread of information about some women having problems in the society and in the family after the correspondence that was said to have been spread from his personal profile.
In response to the question “what is your message to these women”, he said the following:
“Information obtained through cybercrime should not be a reason for discussion. I will clarify this issue after I am released.”
For the time being, it was not possible to get an opinion from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on these views of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
