The conditions for the restoration of the activities of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran are the completion of the investigation into the case of a terrorist act against the diplomatic mission, and the prosecution of the perpetrators and orderlies of the crime.
Aykhan Hajizadeh, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, said this while commenting on the views of Nasir Kanani, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, at a briefing for journalists on June 12.
Today, an Iranian diplomat said that Baku and Tehran have taken a number of steps to reduce tensions.
According to him, the parties are currently at the stage of negotiations to “move from the tension stage to a new stage, to re-open the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran”.
For his part, Hajizade noted that there have been some relations between Azerbaijan and Iran recently.
“During the negotiations, views were exchanged between foreign ministers regarding the known situation,” Hajizade said.
As for the issue of the restoration of the work of the Azerbaijani embassy, which was suspended as a result of the terrorist attack in January of this year, the Azerbaijani side is waiting for the completion of the investigation.
“The perpetrators of the terrorist act and those who ordered it should be brought to justice and punished in the most severe manner. The Azerbaijani side should be sure that there are conditions for the safe operation of the embassy and full guarantees should be given in this regard,” said the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
