A gala evening in honor of the National Cinema Day of Azerbaijan, a professional holiday for cinema workers, was held at the Nizami Cinema Center, Day.Az reports.

This year marks the 126th anniversary of Azerbaijani cinema. This remarkable history began on August 2, 1898 with the mass screening of the first film stories in Baku. According to the order signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev on December 18, 2000, August 2 was declared the Day of Azerbaijani Cinema.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, was attended by famous actors, directors, other filmmakers, creative personalities and film lovers. At the opening of the festive evening, guests got acquainted with the exhibition dedicated to the history of national cinema, organized in the open air in front of the Nizami Cinema Center. The equipment and machinery used in film production, from the silent film period to the end of the Soviet period, posters of film masterpieces, models of the characters of the films were demonstrated here. The guests walked the “red carpet” to the Nizami Cinema Center.

At the opening, an order from the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was read out on awarding a number of filmmakers with the “Tereggi” medal for their services in the development of this sphere and providing a personal presidential pension for many years of fruitful work in the development of national cinematography.

The speakers included Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Saadat Yusifova, Chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist Rasim Balayev, Acting Director General of the Cinema Agency of Azerbaijan, Honored Artist Orkhan Fikretoglu, film director, People’s Artist Ogtay Mirgasimov, who congratulated the filmmakers on the holiday. They spoke about the glorious history of national cinema, successes, including at international festivals, emphasized the care and attention of the state to this sphere and cinematographers, and noted a new stage in the development of cinematography.

An interesting concert program was presented with the participation of artists who performed compositions from famous films, accompanied by frames from these films. This year, 69 films celebrate anniversaries, and frames from them were presented to the audience. The actors, among whom were Honored Cultural Worker of Azerbaijan Yusif Sheykhov, People’s Artist Abdul Makhmudbekov and others, shared memories of filming these films.

At the award ceremony for their services to the development of Azerbaijani cinema, a group of filmmakers and young workers in this field were recognized. The creative persons awarded the traditional prize of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan for 2024 were director, producer Ali-Sattar Guliyev, actor Rasim Jafar, producers Emil Najafov and Orkhan Mardan.

In conclusion, a short film in the genre of psychological drama “Monologue of a Lonely Man” was shown, which tells the story of a participant in the Second Karabakh War. The director and scriptwriter of the film is Emin Efendiyev, the cameraman is Daniel Guliyev, the producer is Sarvar Bayramov. The main roles were played by Mahir Dervish and Elshan Askerov.
