The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry strongly rejects the unacceptable, baseless and completely biased statement made against Azerbaijan by the European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicholas Schmit.
As Day.Az reports, this was stated in a statement by the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Aykhan Hajizade regarding the groundlessness of the claims of the European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights Nicholas Schmit during discussions in the European Parliament.
“This statement by the Commissioner, prepared by the European External Action Service (EEAS), is completely far from reality and is another unsuccessful attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan.
Claims that some Azerbaijani citizens are facing criminal charges because of their political beliefs or opinions, or that criminal cases involving individuals posing as journalists or human rights activists are politically motivated, are fundamentally incorrect.
This approach of the EEAS and the European Parliament is ineffective and for a long time does not produce any results, but only complicates relations between Azerbaijan and Europe.
The European Commissioner has no moral right to talk about human rights problems in Azerbaijan and peace efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia against the backdrop of complete disregard by the relevant EU institutions of Armenia’s 30-year aggression against Azerbaijan, systematic problems in the field of human rights, growing Islamophobia and neo-colonialism in some EU countries.
At the same time, attempts to link the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) with politically motivated issues that are not consistent with the nature of the response to climate change reveal the true colors of some European politicians.
We strongly urge the European Parliament and the EU as a whole to abandon their unilateral position, which is contrary to peace and stability in the region,” Aykhan Hajizadeh said in a statement.
