Valparai: In August last year, the government of Tamil Nadu ordered that the workers working in the tea plantations in Tamil Nadu should be paid 425.40 rupees as a minimum wage. While there was a delay in issuing the decree, it was decided to pay 395 rupees as a daily wage through negotiations between the two parties. 409.82 as a daily wage along with the allowance to the workers. In this situation, a bilateral negotiation was held at the Tamil Nadu Plantation Principals Association office in Coimbatore. The balance will be paid in two installments, said the Plantation Principals Association. The union leaders objected to this, and the talks ended in failure. The plantation workers said: While the government has announced that the minimum wage should be 425.40 rupees, the wages are being given on the basis of an interim agreement. The arrears of wages paid under the interim agreement shall be paid in one installment. The trade unions should hold talks with the Plantation Principals’ Association to get the balance of four matatus to be paid to the workers in one installment, they said.
