PESCARA. Sales remain on July 3rd. The attempt by Pescara to obtain the postponement of the start of the discount season is postponed directly to 2022. This is what emerged yesterday morning during the meeting called by the councilor for commerce Alfredo Cremonese and the councilor Zaira Zamparelli with the representatives of the provincial trade associations. In light of the concerns expressed by the traders from Pescara regarding the start of the summer discounts scheduled for 3 July according to national provisions, the representatives of the Masci administration have decided to bring together the associations. The timing too short to promote a real battle that should have involved the regional bases of the associations led to postpone the discussion to September aiming at obtaining a new schedule for 2022. The meeting was attended by Gianni Taucci, director of Confesercenti, Riccardo Padovano, president of Confcommercio, Barbara Lunelli, vice president of Confartigianato, Carmine Salce, director of Cna, Dino Lucente for Casartigiani e Gianluca Luminari for the Provincial Union of Artisans (Upap Clai).
“The proposal to arrive at a postponement of the start of the sales was fully shared by all the representatives, however it is a more long-term path,” says Cremonese. “It is a goal that cannot be achieved between now and July 3rd. After the summer we will convene an operational table so that a remodeling of the winter sales starts from Pescara, postponing them from the first days of January to February and summer, bringing them from the beginning of July to the end of the month or the first days of August. In recent years a lot has been invested in food, but we must bring attention back to all other activities, otherwise we risk that the windows go out. Pescara is the most important city in Abruzzo », Cremonese emphasizes,« and cannot fail to express a need that comes from traders ».
The associations have expressed a favorable opinion on the postponement of the sales start date, as long as the decision is also shared by the neighboring regions, to avoid diverting shopping to other territories. “For years we have been pushing towards the postponement”, underlines the director of Confesercenti, Taucci. «It is clear that there were no longer any opportunities for this season, also because the positions on the issue are varied. Now the commissioner has taken on an action to be carried out at the regional level for 2022. Our indication, however, is to maintain a single date. We cannot risk finding ourselves in territories that go at different speeds ».
“If the Municipality of Pescara wants to be the spokesperson for a political initiative, the trade associations can only agree on the slip,” said Padovano, the president of Confcommercio. “Decisions need to be made in the longer term. Commerce needs programming. Today we are in an unprecedented liquidity crisis and therefore we must be cautious. It is certain that Pescara must think in terms of the metropolitan area ».
The decision on the start of the sales is taken by the State-Regions Conference. The request must be brought by the regional councilor for productive activities, also on the basis of the indications coming from the regional associations. “We are still faced with a provincial parochialism”, Lucente accuses, “which sees Pescara as the only province that tends towards slippage, with the others in contrast.” “To obtain the result”, emphasizes the councilor Zamparelli, “the four provinces must be united, but one cannot think that Pescara, which is the largest city in Abruzzo and contributes decisively to the regional economy, must undergo the indications of the other territories. Already these days, with the imminent start of the sales, the stores are selling very little. People need to get used to buying on sale at the end of the season ».
