The assistant director of the film ‘Rust’, who handed over the prop gun Alec Baldwin shot and killed the director of photography, had already been fired from a film production for a similar episode. A member of the film crew he worked on, the film’s production company at CNN revealed, he had been slightly injured in a pistol accident.

In particular, according to reports to CNN from Rocket Soul Studios, Dave Halls was assistant director on the film “Freedom’s Path” in 2019, when the explosion produced by a gun “unexpectedly discharged” on the set made a sound engineer jump back, forcing him to seek medical attention and causing production to stop temporarily. Because of that incident, Halls was removed from the set and fired, the company said, explaining that filming didn’t resume “until Dave was out.”
