Balice Administration Shuffles Key Urban Planning Roles Ahead of Major City Development Plan

by time news

Urban planning is the key sector of the Balice administration: the mayor has reiterated this multiple times, including during the inauguration of the City Council. However, just a few weeks after the delegation assignments, the same mayor communicated to the Council the decision to make personnel changes in the key sectors of Public Works and Territory Management, in the former case assigning the manager who was in Urban Planning, Antonio Plescia, who will be replaced by whoever responds to the public notice issued days ago, although logically Gianfranco Bove, who is leaving after 10 years at the helm of the Technical Office, would be in the running; we’ll see, for now he retains Environment. But in the background of the programmatic lines, which have not been publicly enunciated but are known from the attachments of the municipal council resolutions, a totem emerges: the desire to approve, after 46 years, the new General Regulatory Plan, which has seen many attempts succeed and fail, the last being a general variant in the last term of Remo Di Giandomenico, blocked at the Region for procedural reasons. “As part of our proposal for a more livable and sustainable city, urban planning and territory management represent fundamental pillars of our electoral program. In line with this principle, we are prioritizing the approval of the new Regulatory Plan, a fundamental tool to guide the urban development of our municipality. Our goal is to promote the cohesion and integration of neighborhoods, rethinking the city as a single harmonious urban fabric. To achieve this goal, we propose to work actively to optimize urban space, through targeted recovery and reorganization interventions. Priority will be given to enhancing the existing urban fabric, with a focus on the redevelopment of existing infrastructures and the completion of areas under development. We aim to promote specific redevelopment plans for each neighborhood, aimed at enhancing the peculiarities of the local territory and favoring the adoption of the new general regulatory plan. To revitalize the historical center and the two waterfronts, we propose the development of a redevelopment plan that fosters connection and integration among the different areas of the city. This plan aims to enhance the tourism and commercial potential of the historical center, creating a welcoming and functional urban environment for residents and visitors. We reaffirm our opposition to soundproof barriers that could compromise the harmony and livability of the inhabited area. We are committed to promoting alternative solutions to counter the problem of noise pollution, through more sustainable and integrated urban planning and traffic management policies. Particular attention will be given to the reorganization of public transport, with the aim of reducing air pollution and improving urban mobility. We will promote the adoption of non-polluting transport modes, investing in infrastructure and services that encourage the use of eco-friendly public transport and the reduction of private traffic. Our vision for urban planning and the territory is based on principles of sustainability, inclusion, and enhancement of local resources. We are convinced that only through concrete commitment and a long-term vision can we build a better city for all its inhabitants.”
