The emergency hospitalization of the expert Petar Stoyanov became the reason for the postponement of the case of the second instance of the 82-year-old Blagoi Tsvetilov from the “Lyubenovo” neighborhood. The ballistician participated in the expert examination appointed by the Court of Appeal, but could not appear at the hearing.
“We will have questions for the experts, that’s why I depend on their presence,” said grandfather Blagoi’s lawyer Chavdar Petrov. The prosecutor also indicated that the hearing should be adjourned and the magistrates scheduled it for November 7.
Tsvetinov received an 11-year sentence from the District Court in Plovdiv after being found guilty of intentionally killing his distant relative Mitko Ivanov on October 21, 2022. Grandfather Blagoi must also pay BGN 320,000 in blood money to the relatives of the deceased. The case before the second instance was initiated by appeals from both them and the 82-year-old man himself, and each party is dissatisfied with the amount of the sentence.
54-year-old Mitko Ivanov cultivated inherited lands, part of which belonged to Blagoi, and paid him rent for his share. However, the pensioner was not satisfied with the money and scandals often broke out between them. On the fateful day, they quarreled again in the field and Tsvetilov took out his legally owned double-barreled hunting rifle.
“Either we get along, or I’ll blow you up,” said grandfather Blagoi, and Mitko Ivanov raised his hands to protect himself. The older man shot him and the younger man moved a few meters away. However, the shooter followed him and shot a second time, fatally. He then went home, changed his clothes and went to the District Office, where he told the police what he had done and handed over the rifle. They found 112 illegal cartridges in his home.
It was established that before reaching Ivanov, Blagoi Tsvetilov waved his weapon at a young boy who warned him not to run over the alfalfa with his car. The young man was frightened, but the pensioner told him that he was not looking for him.
