Baltimore PD Responds to Active Shooter Situation Near Morgan State University

Baltimore, Maryland – The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) swiftly responded to the scene of an active shooter situation on Tuesday night near Morgan State University. The incident, which occurred on the street bordering the campus, left multiple victims injured.

The BPD initially alerted the public to the ongoing threat around 10 p.m. ET. They urged residents to shelter in place and avoid the area on Argonne Drive. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the involvement of agents from the Baltimore Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), who provided support to the local police.

As the incident unfolded, authorities updated the public through various social media platforms. At 11:55 p.m. ET, the BPD confirmed that the situation was no longer an active shooter one. Half an hour later, Morgan State University announced that the shelter-in-place order on campus had been lifted.

“Morgan State University is relieved to report that the shelter-in-place order has been lifted. We appreciate the quick response by the Baltimore Police Department and ATF, as well as the cooperation and patience of our students and faculty during this harrowing incident,” the university tweeted.

Details about the shooter and the victims have not yet been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and law enforcement authorities are actively gathering information to determine the motive behind the attack.

The university initially advised its students to seek shelter and avoid Thurgood Marshall Hall and the Murphy Fine Arts Center. Additionally, family members were urged to stay away from the campus and instead report to the Safeway parking lot on Harford Road, where a BPD officer was available to provide assistance.

Images from the scene showed numerous police vehicles and personnel present at the university. The community remains in shock over the incident, which has become all too familiar in recent years.

“This is truly a tragic event for our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families,” said Baltimore Mayor John Stevens during a press conference following the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. As the situation continues to unfold, residents are advised to stay tuned for further updates.

“We want to assure the public that we are doing everything in our power to bring the responsible individuals to justice and ensure the safety of our community,” added Mayor Stevens.

This is a developing story, and more updates will be provided as new information emerges.
