Title: Bamaka Leader Anbumani Ramadoss Stands Firm on Protecting Agricultural Land

Bamagawa’s policy decision is to protect agriculture, said Bamaka leader Anbumani Ramadoss, emphasizing the importance of preserving arable land in the face of industrial expansion. His comments came during a protest in Melma area, Tiruvannamalai district, against the acquisition of agricultural land for the expansion of Chipkot Industrial Estate.

Ramadoss highlighted the alarming decrease in agricultural land area in Tamil Nadu over the last 45 years, from 48 percent to 36 percent, with 42 lakh acres of arable land being destroyed. He advocated for the use of barren land in Vandavasi, Sengam, and Bolur areas instead of acquiring fertile soil for the expansion of the industrial estate.

Furthermore, BAMAKA’s stance on protecting agriculture was made clear, with Ramadoss stating, “We don’t want any progress by destroying agriculture.”

The opposition to acquisition of agricultural land is not limited to protests, as a case has been filed in court against the 8-lane road project, which aims to acquire 10 thousand acres of arable land. In addition, the launch of a knowledge city at Kummidipoondi has raised concerns about the impact on 1700 acres of arable land and the arrest of those protesting against it under the Gund Prevention Act.

Ramadoss also criticized the DMK’s actions, alleging that the party is giving away barren land and acquiring arable land for the Chipgat project, contrary to their election manifesto. He called for the cancellation of all cases against farmers protesting against the acquisition of agricultural land and their release from detention.

During the protest, Ramadoss garlanded six of the Melma farmers who were arrested and released on bail, showing support for their cause. Other notable figures in attendance included State Plowing Association President Ulayamani, Secretary Velusamy, Patali Union State President Rama Muthukumar, and BAMAK District Secretary S.A. Ganesh Kumar.

Overall, Anbumani Ramadoss and BAMAKA remain unwavering in their commitment to protecting agriculture and the farmers who rely on it, calling for a reevaluation of the government’s actions in acquiring arable land for industrial expansion.
