During a press conference on the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition “Bamako Dreams 30” hosted by the National Museum of Photography in Rabat, Mr. Qotbi assured that “cultural diplomacy is underway”, rejoicing to learn that Morocco will be the guest country of honor at the African Photography Biennial (November 16, 2024 – January 16, 2025) which has seen the emergence of a unique African culture, creativity and genius.
Assuring that Africa has been a source of inspiration for the world, Mr. Qotbi said he was happy to welcome the Minister of Crafts, Culture, Hotel Industry and Tourism of Mali to this historic place that is the National Museum of Photography.
For his part, the curator of the National Museum of Photography and co-curator of the exhibition, Soufiane Er-rahoui, stressed that this artistic event celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the African Photography Meetings of Bamako (Photography Biennale), bringing together 24 artists from the four corners of the African continent and those of the diaspora, with a large representation of Morocco.
All the photographers featured in this exhibition have already left their mark in previous editions of the Bamako Biennale, with the exception of the late Mohamed Cherradi, one of the precursors of Moroccan photography, to whom tribute is paid today through this exhibition alongside the Malian Seydou Keita and the Kenyan James Barnor.
Open to the public from May 8 and co-produced by the National Museum Foundation (FNM) and the Bamako Encounters (African Photography Biennial), this exhibition pays tribute to the Malian capital, the birthplace of legendary talents such as Seydou Keita and Malick Sidibé.
Offering a rich and stimulating mosaic of contemporary African creativity, the exhibition is structured around five complementary themes, namely “From the prism of the other to the image of oneself”, “Counter-narratives”, “Humanist perspectives”, “Reinvented spaces”, “Ecological meditations”.
