New York: The United Nations has urged the Taliban, the country’s rulers, to lift the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “It is time to end all discriminatory laws and practices that prevent access to education. In particular, I call for the withdrawal of the outrageous ban on girls’ education in secondary and high schools in Afghanistan. The theme of this year’s International Education Day is ‘Priority Education’. About 80% of girls in Afghanistan are denied an education, according to UNESCO.

US and NATO forces withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021. After that, the Taliban took over. They declared rule according to Islamic Sharia law. However, the government will not be like the previous system, and women’s education; They promised to maintain women’s freedom and establish friendly relations with the nations of the world. But it is worth noting that the Taliban are involved in activities that continue to deprive women of their rights.
