Rawalpindi: With Liton Das’ century and Mehdi Hasan Miraz’s half-century, Bangladesh made a comeback against Pakistan in the second Test on Sunday despite fast bowler Khurram Shahzad’s first five-wicket performance. Shahzad (six wickets for 90 runs) achieved the feat of taking five wickets for the first time. Liton played an aggressive innings of 138 runs with the help of 13 fours and two sixes while Mehdi scored 78 runs. With this, Bangladesh scored 262 runs, recovering from the score of 26 runs for six wickets after Shahzad’s initial setbacks in the first hour of the third day. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test last week. In the second innings, Pakistan scored nine runs after losing two wickets till stumps and its total lead became 21 runs. Pakistan lost the wickets of night watchman Shahzad and opener Abdullah Shafique.

Saim Ayub was present at the crease after scoring 6 runs. Earlier, Shahzad took 6 wickets for 90 runs. But both Liton and Mehdi faced this fast bowler bravely after lunch and made a partnership of 165 runs. Shahzad took four wickets in the morning session and then added two more wickets to his account.

Immediately after tea, Liton completed his century and disappointed Pakistan further by adding 69 runs with number 10 player Hasan Mahmud (13 not out). Pakistan’s fielding was poor, in which its players dropped many catches. Earlier, Bangladesh’s top order faltered in front of the brilliant seam and swing of Shahzad and Mir Hamza (2 wickets for 50 runs). Coming to play at 10 runs without losing any wicket in the morning, Bangladesh lost six wickets for 26 runs. But after this, Liton and Mehdi made a brilliant century partnership and dominated the fast bowlers as well as spin and brought Bangladesh back. After washing out the first day’s game, Pakistan scored 274 runs in the first innings on the second day.
