Santander Bank and the University of Córdoba (UCO) This past Thursday, November 2, they signed a framework collaboration agreement aimed at bringing finances closer to the senior population.

The new agreement has been signed by the rector of the UCO, Manuel Torralbo, and the territorial director of Banco Santander in Andalusia, Manuel de la Cruz.

Through this agreement, volunteer trainers from Banco Santander will carry out, throughout this academic year, several ‘Finance for Mortals Senior Edition’ workshops at all the locations where the ‘Francisco Santisteban’ Intergenerational Center of the University of Córdoba is active. .

These training workshops are aimed at people over 65 years of age, and include teaching on the management of technologies and digital banking, key concepts on cybersecurity to avoid scams and fraud, and ATM management and other everyday concepts in the financial field.

In the opinion of Manuel de la Cruz, the territorial director of Santander Bank in Andalusia, “for Santander, training is a basic pillar for financial inclusion and is also part of our alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.” Furthermore, he pointed out that “This agreement with the UCO, with which we have maintained close collaboration for years, represents our commitment and that of our professionals to raising awareness in society about the importance of having basic economic knowledge necessary to make decisions in an informed, responsible and safe manner and that no person is left behind.

Manuel Torralbo, the rector of the UCO, has stated that “the inclusion of topics related to the management of technology applied to banking represents an added bonus of training for the students of the Intergenerational Center, especially because many of our elders lack of adequate training to enter digital banking with confidence and ease, which is why we are convinced that these workshops will be very welcome.”

In 2022, the ‘Finance for Mortals’ program included the work of more than 370 volunteer trainers from Banco Santander, and ended last year with more than 82,500 people benefiting from its activities.

‘Finance for Mortals’ is one of the most outstanding financial education programs at the national level, it has received recognition from the Bank of Spain and the CNMV, and has the collaboration of the Santander Financial Institute (SANFI) of the UCEIF Foundation.

In addition to supporting this program, Santander Bank participates in ‘Your Finances, your Future’, developed by the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) and ‘Financial Education in the Schools of Catalonia’.

The ‘Francisco Santisteban’ Intergenerational Center is a project of the University of Córdoba, dependent on the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Culture, aimed at promoting development, scientific and sociocultural programs for people over 50 years of age.

For more than a decade, Banco Santander has supported different financial education programs in all the countries in which it operates, aimed especially at the most financially vulnerable groups.
