Banco Santander has become the first Spanish company in the ranking Fortune 500 europeowhich lists the top European companies based on revenue.

The entity chaired by Ana Botín Specifically, it is ranked number 21 on the European Fortune 500 list, ahead of the other 18 Spanish companies present on it.

In detail, apart from Santander Bankthe Spanish firms that appear in the ‘top 10’ of this list are Repsol (37th place), Iberdrola (50), BBVA (73), Telefónica (85), Naturgy (101), ACS (102), Inditex (106 ), Mercadona (124), and Mapfre (155).

Already well behind the 21st place of Santander Bank CaixaBank (220), Acciona (276), Gestamp (313), Acerinox (368), Ferrovial (404), Banco Sabadell (419), Grupo Dia (435), Sacyr (450), and Grifols (454) appear.

The companies that appear in this first edition of the European Fortune 500 come from 24 different countries, with the British Shell and the Germans Volkswagen and Uniper occupying the first places.

Scott DeCarlo, the editor of the list, stressed that European companies have had to face various challenges during the last fiscal year, and yet, “they continue to grow and adapt in an increasingly complex and unpredictable geopolitical and economic landscape.”
