Despite the high interest rates in force, Spanish banks have barely started the war on the remuneration of deposits. It is true that some of them begin to pay more for the money deposited by their clients.
According to the European Central Bank (ECB), Spanish financial institutions remunerate 12-month deposits at an average of 2.21%. Far, yes, from the average in the euro zone, or the 3.5% that is paid in some countries of the Union, such as France.
That does not mean that banks do not develop other strategies to attract customers. For example, the remuneration of the salaries or the gift in the form of cash for new users. This is what Santander does, which offers up to 400 euros gross for bringing the salary or pension to your Online Account.
The bonus reaches that figure if the client takes his salary or pension to Santander for an amount of at least 2,500 euros per month and also directs two monthly receipts to the same account.
If the salary or pension is less than 2,500 euros, but more than 600 euros per month, the bonus is reduced to 300 euros. In both cases a stay of 24 months is required.
Subject to withholding
Santander advises that the promotional bonus constitutes a movable monetary income and that, as such, it is subject to the corresponding withholding (currently 19%), which will be carried out directly by the entity. That is, the cash remuneration will be 324 and 243 euros respectively. The promotion is valid until December 31.
The Santander Online Account has no commissions, so you do not pay anything for opening or maintenance. The use of Bizum and transfers is also free. The withdrawal of cash on debit in the 30,000 ATMs that the entity has distributed around the world does not have commissions either.
The opening of the account also includes a virtual credit card that is also free of surcharges. If you opt for the physical card, you have to pay a single commission of 9 euros.
