The Cauvery Basin Protection Association organized a complete blockade in the Cauvery Delta districts on Wednesday, demanding that the Karnataka government immediately open the Cauvery water. They also condemned the Kannada organizations and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their protests in Karnataka.

From 6 am to 6 pm, a complete blockade was held in the Cauvery Delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagai, Mayiladuthurai, Trichy, Ariyalur, and Pudukottai. During this protest, farmers picketed in front of central government offices to express their discontent.

The bustling areas of Thanjavur, including Thanjavur South Road, Gandhiji Road, and Keezhavasal, witnessed deserted shops as they remained closed throughout the day. Main commercial streets like Ayyangadai Street, Parma Bazaar Road, and Kamaraj Vegetable Market were also affected, with all the shops closed.

In addition to the farmers, students of Thanjavur Saraboji Government College joined the protest to show their solidarity.

Demonstrations were held in various locations in Thanjavur, including in front of central government offices and LIC buildings.

The ongoing Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has caused widespread concerns among the farmers in the Cauvery Delta districts. The farmers have been demanding the release of water from Karnataka, which they believe is rightfully theirs and necessary for their agricultural activities.

This bandh, or complete shutdown, was a way to intensify the pressure on the Karnataka government to take immediate action and address the grievances of the farmers. With the closure of shops and public demonstrations, it is evident that the issue has had a significant impact on the daily lives of the people in the affected districts.

The Cauvery water dispute has a long history and has often caused tension and conflicts between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It is a complex issue that requires careful consideration and effective resolution to ensure the welfare and interests of all parties involved.

As the bandh continues, it remains to be seen what actions the governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will take to address the concerns of the farmers and find a lasting solution to the Cauvery water dispute.
