A love story troubled by climate change is at the heart of the first film by Senegalese filmmaker Ramata-Toulaye Sy, in competition.

The filmmaker Ramata Toulaye-Sy having declared to Freed that she read all the reviews, this one will be short but warm. In competition, and this is an event, for the palme d’or, this first Senegalese film tells the love story, at first sight idyllic, but soon troubled by disturbances as climatic as psychic, between the two young people which gives it its title. Banel (Khady Mane) is crazy about Adama (Mamadou Diallo). She dreams of leaving with him the heart of the small village where they grew up to go and live in the mysterious sandy houses, at the gates of the desert. For him, it’s more complicated, especially since the drought is raging and Banel is not going very well. Saturated with sunshine and symbolism, Panel et Adama leaves a little, like storms and thoughts, in all directions, but ends up staying the course, anchored to its unlikable and therefore interesting heroine.

In competition. Panel et Adama The Best of Ramata-Toulaye Sy, Khady Mane, Mamadou Diallo… 1h2
