Rita Roselin Costa says the Catholic Diocese of Bangladesh is working on a team to help women avoid the sexual abuse they face in their homes, offices and elsewhere.

Catholic bishops have verbally agreed to form a committee headed by the Women’s Task Force of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh to prevent abuses against women, said its coordinator and social activist Costa.

On Wednesday, March 29, Costa told the UConn News Agency that they are continuing to discuss setting up a committee to take legal action to help any woman who has been subjected to any form of sexual harassment.

Costa explained that the committee will have representatives from eight dioceses and will include all Christian bodies.

About 72 percent of women workers face psychological sexual violence, 74 percent verbal abuse, 31 percent physical violence and 6 percent sexual violence, a study released in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday, March 28, said. (UCAN)
