Dhaka: After losing power in Bangladesh, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s troubles are increasing. Sheikh Hasina had fled to India. But now a series of cases have been filed against her in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has an extradition treaty with India, so these cases are also a tension for India. Legal pressure on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina increased on Wednesday, as new cases were filed against her and other Awami League government leaders. A petition has been filed in the International Criminal Tribunal, demanding an investigation into charges of genocide and crimes against humanity against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and others. The petition was filed by Bulbul Kabir, father of 9th class student Arif Ahmed Siam, who was killed during the student movement. Kabir’s application accused Hasina and others of violent action against the students. This resulted in large-scale casualties and human rights violations. According to the petition, Sheikh Hasina made inflammatory statements in a press conference, which allegedly incited violence against student protesters.

These allegations were also made

The petition claims that he, along with ministers and leaders, directed law enforcement and party workers to fully or partially eliminate students involved in the protests. Apart from the deaths, the petition alleges that nearly 4.5 lakh protesting students were wrongly implicated in 286 criminal cases across the country, leading to the arrest and mistreatment of nearly 12,000 people. The tribunal has requested the investigating agency to thoroughly investigate the allegations and take appropriate legal action against the accused.

India’s tension will increase

Apart from this, a case has been registered against Sheikh Hasina related to the forced disappearance of a lawyer in 2015. After hearing the case related to this on Wednesday, the court ordered to register an FIR. On Tuesday itself, a case was registered against Sheikh Hasina and six others for the murder of a shopkeeper, who was killed in violence last month. However, the cases being continuously registered against Sheikh Hasina are also a matter of tension for India. Because an extradition treaty was signed between India and Bangladesh in 2013. In 2016, changes were also made to expedite it. Bangladesh can appeal to India to send Sheikh Hasina back by calling her a fugitive criminal. Since Sheikh Hasina is now a common citizen, India may face a diplomatic challenge.
