(24News) In Bangladesh, when the situation was not under control even after the curfew, the protesting students were ordered to be shot on sight.

According to media reports, the protest of students against the quota system in government jobs in Bangladesh intensified for several days, after which the government tightened the curfew across the country and ordered to shoot the protesters on sight. The Ministry of Interior of Bangladesh had issued a circular for the implementation of curfew and the deployment of the army across the country. General Secretary of the ruling Awami League Party and Member of Parliament Obaidul Qadir said that the security officers are allowed to fire on the crowd in extreme situations. According to AFP, at least 115 people have been killed in violent protests so far. Bangladeshi authorities have not shared an official number of dead or injured.

Authorities have banned mobile and internet services across the country and blocked several news channels and newspaper websites. According to local media, a prison in Narsingdi district, north of the capital, was set on fire after protesters stormed it. About 800 prisoners escaped.

It should be noted that a quota of 30% of government jobs has been kept for the separatists who fought in the 1971 war against Pakistan in Bangladesh. The quota system should be replaced by a merit-based system, the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has supported the protests.
