Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that Bangladesh and the United Kingdom will work together to prevent climate change and protect the environment.
He said this to the journalists after the meeting with Sarah Cook, the British High Commissioner appointed to Bangladesh on Monday (August 19).
The British High Commissioner met Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan at the Secretariat. At this time, the secretary of the Ministry of Environment. Farhina Ahmed was present.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said climate change is a global crisis that needs urgent attention.
He highlighted the importance of youth engagement and called for the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to be more effective.
The environmental adviser stressed on doubling climate finance to $100 billion and working to ensure a better world for future generations. He emphasized on working together on rainwater harvesting and salinity removal initiatives. He urged to ensure that these benefits reach the people.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cook reiterated the UK’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s environmental initiatives and emphasized the importance of joint action to reach global climate goals. He highlighted Britain’s efforts in conserving the Sundarbans and Hakaluki Hao and stressed the importance of youth involvement and transition to green energy. Sarah Cook said that UK and Bangladesh will work closely in the next cup conference.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation on combating climate change, environmental conservation and sustainable management of forests. Both sides discussed opportunities for further cooperation, such as capacity building, technology transfer, and policy development.
