Dhaka: 100 people have died in the violence that resumed in Bangladesh on Sunday, including 13 policemen. Protesters set fire to the offices of the ruling Awami League in several districts and also set vehicles on fire. There is a lot of chaos in the country due to the security forces not taking steps to stop the protesters from violence. India Today has claimed, citing sources, that PM Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh is in danger and speculations have started about the army taking over power in the country.
According to the report, experts believe that if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina accepts the protesters’ demand for resignation, an interim military government will be formed in the country. At present, the atmosphere seems to be against Hasina’s Awami League government and pressure is mounting on her to step down. Leaders of the ruling Awami League are also becoming the target of violent protests. According to the Dhaka Tribune report, six Awami League leaders were beaten to death by a mob in Narsingdi city. The people who took to the streets have called for Hasina to step down from the post of PM.

People associated with the army are also giving impetus to the movement!

On Sunday, when the protesters reached Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and started arson, the police and security forces did not reach the spot. It is being claimed that the army did not fire on the protesters because their family members are also involved in the protest. The Bangladesh Army did not clearly state in a statement whether they support the protesters or not but said that they stand with the people. Army Chief Vakkar-Uzzaman said that “The Bangladesh Army is a symbol of people’s faith and has always stood with the people.

Some former army officers have joined the student movement. Former army chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan has turned his Facebook profile picture red in support of the movement. Bangladeshi-American political analyst and faculty member of the University of Dallas Shafqat Rabbi says that Hasina has made the same mistake as Yahya Khan did by firing in Dhaka in March 1971. It seems that the result is also going in the same direction. About one crore people are on the streets of Bangladesh to protest. Meanwhile, the police and security forces look helpless.

Dhaka-based sources predict that Hasina may step down and a military government will take her place. Shafqat says whether Hasina will stay in Bangladesh or not depends on how the change happens. At present, she is trying to handle the situation through many sources but people’s anger is not subsiding.
