Bank Al-Maghrib puts into circulation the new 20 dirham banknote

Rabat – Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) is putting into circulation the new 20 dirham banknote, starting this Wednesday, August 21, 2024, as part of the commemoration of Youth Day.

The new 20 dirham note, issued as part of the issuance of the new series of banknotes and coins, highlights the richness of Morocco’s architectural heritage and socio-cultural development, BAM said in a statement.

The front of this note features the portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Coat of Arms of the Kingdom as well as an architectural motif inspired by Moroccan doors and a stylized view of the “Al Qaraouiyine” University of Fez, the same source said.

The back of the note contains artistic representations of the Grand Theatre of Rabat, the “Mohammed VI” Museum of Modern Art and a grandstand of a sports complex as well as a stylized view of the Kasbah of “Aït-Ben-Haddou”.

This new banknote incorporates several cutting-edge security features such as the colour-changing security thread with dynamic effect, the iridescent strip on the back, the patterns with a relief perceptible to the visually impaired and the progressive character numbering.

All stages of design and production of this new note were carried out exclusively by the Moroccan skills of Dar As-Sikkah, the press release concludes.
