HDFC Bank has recently established a branch in Kavaratti Island of Lakshadweep. It is a part of the Union Territory Lakshadweep. The move makes HDFC the only private sector bank with a branch in the region. The branch was inaugurated by Captain Lavkesh Thakur, Commanding Officer of the Indian Navy and KP Muthukoya, a respected resident of the island.

According to S Sampathkumar, group head of retail banking at HDFC Bank, the branch aims to upgrade the banking infrastructure in the Union Territory by offering a wide range of services focusing on personal banking and digital banking. This includes providing retailers with customized digital solutions such as QR-based transactions. HDFC Bank is the only private bank with such an extensive branch network from Kashmir to Lakshadweep. Another private bank earlier had a branch in this union territory. However, that bank had closed that branch a few years ago.
